Safe. Comfortable. Personalized Care for Every Patient.

What to Expect with Anesthesia at The Orthopaedic Surgery Center

At our state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center, your safety and comfort come first. Whether you’re undergoing a joint replacement, arthroscopy, or a minimally invasive procedure, our experienced anesthesia team ensures a smooth and pain-free surgical experience—from pre-op to post-op.

Types of Anesthesia for Orthopedic Surgery

Our anesthesiologists use advanced techniques tailored to your procedure and health profile:

  • General Anesthesia: You’ll be fully asleep during your procedure. Common for major surgeries like total knee or hip replacements.

  • Regional Anesthesia: Includes spinal blocks or nerve blocks that numb a specific area, ideal for surgeries on shoulders, arms, or legs.

  • Local Anesthesia with Sedation: Best for minor outpatient procedures where you remain relaxed but conscious.

Advanced Pain Control Options

In addition to general and regional anesthesia, we offer innovative, long-lasting pain relief methods to keep you comfortable after surgery:

  • On-Q Pain Pump: This small, portable pump delivers a continuous flow of local anesthetic directly to the surgical site for up to five days after surgery, reducing the need for narcotics and promoting a faster recovery.

  • Exparel®: A single-dose, long-acting anesthetic injected near the surgical site during your procedure. Exparel provides targeted pain relief for up to 72 hours, helping to minimize post-operative discomfort and reliance on opioids.

These advanced options are especially helpful for procedures such as total joint replacements or soft tissue repairs. Your anesthesiologist will discuss whether either of these options is right for your specific surgery and recovery goals.

Why Anesthesia at The Orthopaedic Surgery Center Is Different

Choosing an ASC for your orthopedic surgery offers unique advantages:

  • Faster Recovery: Short-acting anesthetics mean you’ll be up and moving sooner.

  • Lower Risk: Healthier patients, a controlled environment, and experienced providers reduce complication rates.

  • Focused, Personalized Care: Our anesthesia team gets to know you—your history, concerns, and surgical goals.

Safety Comes First

Your anesthesiologist will meet with you before your surgery to:

  • Review your medical history and medications

  • Explain your anesthesia options in plain language

  • Answer all your questions

  • Create a plan that maximizes comfort and minimizes risk

During surgery, you’re continuously monitored by a board-certified provider who specializes in outpatient orthopedic anesthesia.
